The Tamil Nadu Medical Council has raised its objections on grounds of setting a separate standard of healthcare for people in rural areas.
Speaking to The Hindu , M.S.Ashraf, president of the state medical council, said the council notified the MCI of its refusal to register candidates admitted under the Bachelor of Rural Health Care course.
The state council’s functions include maintenance of the medical register, containing names of doctors possessing recognized medical qualifications.
Restore autonomy
The council had also passed a resolution earlier opposing the National Council for Human Resources in Health (NCHRH) Bill in toto, he observed. The government appointed national commission would usurp powers of all medical and paramedical councils.
The autonomy of the Medical Council of India has been compromised with no fresh elections and nominations being called for the Board of Governors for the third consecutive year, Dr.Ashraf. “Our main demands are that autonomy of the MCI must be restored and state medical councils should continue to function independently,” he said.
