St. Joseph’s College team comprising P. Josephin Shamini and J. Emagulate Rani (both of I MA English literature) won the ‘Patricia memorial rolling shield’ at the inter-collegiate English debate competition organised by the Aurora Club of Department of English of Cauvery College for Women here recently.

The title of the debate was ‘Science prolongs life; religion deepens it’.

The Seethalakshmi Ramaswami College team of S. Valliammai (II B. Sc Physics) and S. Niranjani (II BA English) finished runners up.

The third place went to Shrimati Indira Gandhi College duo of Iyer Ramya Rajesh (II B. Sc Computer Science) and C. Ahrathy Priyamvadana (II BBA).

C. Ahrathy Priyamvadana of Shrimathi Indira Gandhi College won the best speaker award.

G. Balakrishnan, former vice principal, St. Joseph’s College was the panellist. V. Sujatha, principal, presided over the valediction.

M. Jayaraman, president, College Governing Council and K. Rengarajan, its secretary, gave away the prizes. Hilda M. Thenmozhi, vice principal and head of the Department of English, felicitated the winners.
