SSLC: Tiruchi district retains 9th position

The examination result sees ups and downs in students’ performance in delta region

The results of SSLC examinations were declared on Wednesday, and it is a mixed bag for the delta region.

Tiruchi district retained the 9th position in the State in the SSLC examinations. The results were released on Wednesday.

A total of 36,362 candidates appeared for the exams in the district and 35,012 passed. The 96.29 pass percentage was higher than the State average (94.48), but down marginally from last year’s 96.98% . The district, however, retained its 9th rank in the State.

Girls outnumbered boys in pass percentage 98.26% to 94.29%. Out of 18,281 girls, 17,963 passed. Out of 18,081 boys, 17,049 passed.

The pass percentage of government schools was 94.82. As many as 203 students (144 girls) scored more than 481 marks.

A total of 1,858 students secured between 451 and 480 marks in the district.

Thanjavur district registered a pass percentage of 94.88. The district, which stood 14th in the State last year with an overall pass percentage of 95.21, has slipped to 21st place. Of the total 33,287 candidates, comprising 16,161 girls and 15,422 boys, 31,583 passed.

In Tiruvarur district, the pass percentage stood at 93.38, with 15,162 candidates out of a total 16,237 passing the exam. The breakup: 8,017 girls and 7,145 boys.

Nagapattinam district improved its performance with an overall pass percentage of 93.61 against last year’s 91.40. The district moved up to the 25th place rom 30th position last year. Of the 21,517 candidates, 20,143 (girls 95.43%, boys 91.68%)cleared the exam. Among the 278 schools, 110 scored cent per cent pass.

In Perambalur district, 96.20% of the students passed. The pass percentage of girls was higher than that of boys this time. A total of 9,051 students, including 4,185 girls, appeared for the exam.

Result: 8,707 students, including 4,061 girls ( 97.04%), passed. Official sources said 25 government schools and four welfare schools recorded centum pass. The overall pass percentage in the district was 93.88 last year.

The overall pass percentage in Pudukottai district was 96.10, a marginal dip from last year’s 96.16%. There were 23,434 students including 11,958 girls. Of them, 11,657 girls and 10,864 boys passed out. Official sources said the overall pass percentage in the 205 government schools was 95.20%.

Karur district improved its overall pass percentage by securing 95.98, 0.78 % more than last year. It was 95.20 % in 2016-17. The district has moved one notch up — to 14th place.

Out of 12,294 candidates, 11,800, including 5,924 girls, passed. The pass percentage of government schools is 94.23, marginally lower than the overall pass percentage. All five blind students cleared the exam.

Making up for the district’s lacklustre performance in the Plus Two examinations, SSLC students in Ariyalur district secured 96.13 % pass percentage, which is higher than the State average.

Of the 10,912 candidates, 10,490 ( 97.14 girls and 95.01 boys) passed.
