T. Harsha of Chinmaya Vidyalaya Matriculation School in Srirangam notched up a perfect score of 500 out of 500 in the ‘other language’ category in the SSLC examinations.
Though Tamil is her native language she chose to learn Sanskrit and scored a centum in the subject.
Classmates, schoolmates and friends celebrated her achievement by carrying her on their shoulders in a victory parade in the school.
“I never thought that I should go for tuition classes. I got everything in my school. In my view, there is no need for external classes if we concentrate in well in school and complete the lessons daily,” she told The Hindu . “I spent around two hours daily in the evening to recollect the day’s lessons. Now, I have tasted success,” says Harsha, who wants to study medicine.
Her father, Thangavel, works as a marketing manager in a private firm and her mother is a part-time craft teacher in the school where she has studied.
