Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) to be used for the Srirangam byelection were subjected to checks at the collectorate here on Wednesday.

The EVMs were brought to the collectorate from the old Revenue Divisional Officer’s office where they have been kept under safe custody. District Election Officer and Collector K.S.Palanisamy monitored the exercise. As Srirangam constituency has 322 polling booths, a total of 322 EVMs were planned to be used. Additionally, 10 per cent machines have been kept as reserve. A team of Bharat Electronic Limited engineers has been checking the EVMs, an official press release here said. Works to create basic facilities at the polling booths, including establishment of ramps had been taken up, the release added.
