In an attempt to spread values among students, the Madurai branch of the Sri Ramakrishna Mutt has launched a 20-day mobile book exhibition covering various schools, polytechnics and colleges in Tiruchi and Perambalur districts.

Around 600 titles are being displayed in a van on the campus of the educational institution for a couple of days or so, attracting the youth to the exhibition.

Most books pertain to the lectures delivered by Swami Vivekananda in different parts of the globe, but the exhibits also include books on meditation, yoga, cultural and spiritual cultural topics. The exhibition is a perfect blend of books on philosophy, epics, spiritual guidelines and moral values.

“The objective is to inculcate among the students a spirit towards self-development and patriotism,” says Branch Manager Swami Gitasarananda.

While pictorial books on Ramayana and other epics are bound to attract the pupils of elementary or middle schools, the books on philosophy and theosophy are a boon for college students.

The Mutt has brought out several rare books recently. For instance, Lectures from Colombo to Almora is a rare compilation of Swami Vivekananda’s lectures. The book contains talks on such as ‘Vedantam’, ‘Vedanta and Indian Life’ and ‘The future of India’.

The book, My India The India Eternal is a rare book on the life of the Swamiji. An exclusive chapter ‘Memorable events in the life of Swami Vivekananda’ details various incidents including Dr. Annie Besant’s appreciation of his determination to foster universal brotherhood.

The low-priced edition of Tirukkural is another feature. No student can afford to miss a glimpse of this big volume. “It does not just stop at interpreting the couplets of Tirukkural but gives in-depth reference to Thevaram, Tholkappiyam, Tiruvasagam and other ancient Tamil literature. An exclusive dictionary-index has also been appended. The interpretation by Parimelazhagar, Manakudavar, Parithiar, Kaliyangar and Kaviraja Pandithar for every couplet is a special feature of the book, he says.

Special discount is available for institutions purchasing a large number of books. Sri Swami Gitasarananda can be contacted on 94421-73900.
