Police officials who spoke at the passing out parade by Home Guards here on Friday underlined their services in complementing police personnel in crowd management, manning polling booths, and maintenance of law and order. Despite their unscheduled duty, the Home Guards render their services with an unwavering commitment towards society, they said.
Shailesh Kumar Yadav, City Commissioner of Police and Commandant of Home Guards, Tiruchi city, called upon the eligible young Home Guards to appear for the police recruitment tests.
He said that the training and experience they got as Home Guards would motivate them to aspire for police services.
The Home Guards from northern states who were deployed for election duty in Tamil Nadu handled weapons meticulously he said, and hoped that the State government too, in course of time, permit Home Guards to handle arms.
Explaining the unscheduled nature of their duty, Mr.Yadav said that he has advised the officials to prepare the monthly duty chart for Home Guards in consultation with them. It would go a long way in facilitating the Home Guards to attend duty without any hitch.
He advised them to fully utilise the infrastructure available in the city for undergoing training in yoga, physical exercises, and other programmes.
L.R.C.Ravisankar, Assistant Commandant General Home Guards, Tiruchi Range, said that a recommendation has been made to the State government to accord some priority to Home Guards aspiring for recruitment to police personnel. The State government has increased the remuneration for Home Guards.
A State-level sports meet for Home Guards would be held in Tiruvnelveli by December.
M.Sathiya Priya and S.Selvakumar, Deputy Commissioners of Police, explained the honorary services being rendered by Home Guards on a par with police personnel.
G.Pari, Area Commander, and N.Kunguma Sundari, Deputy Area Commander, spoke. K.Parthasarathy, Adjutant Home Guards, read out the report. Earlier, Mr.Yadav took salute.
He also honoured senior Home Guards in appreciation of their services.
