Even as investigations into the two “grave” burglaries – one at a jewellery shop in Thuraiyur and another in an ATM at Kollidam – and a dacoity case at Manapparai were on, police personnel forming part of the special police teams probing them have been relieved from routine duties.
This has been done to enable the team members concentrate on the cases to achieve breakthrough expeditiously.
Grave offences
The Deputy Superintendents of Police of the sub division concerned where the “grave offence” was reported have been directed to monitor the progress of investigation time-to-time and guide the special teams.
The three “grave” offences took place in two months with the extent of property stolen – gold jewellery, cash and silver articles – being huge.
In the burglary at a jewellery shop in Thuraiyur in early February, culprits made away with five kg gold jewellery, Rs. 10 lakh in cash, and 20 kg silver articles. Cash amounting to over Rs. 21 lakh was looted by a burglar from the ATM of Punjab National Bank at Kollidam on the city’s outskirts last month, while the dacoity case in Manapparai was reported a few days ago where an armed gang took away 90 sovereigns of gold, Rs. 4.34 lakh in cash, and 5 kg of silver articles from the house of a rice mill owner after threatening the inmates.
On deputation
With three Inspectors heading the special teams, their counterparts from the neighbouring police station had been directed to hold full additional charge of that police station until further orders. For instance, the Inspector of Thathiengarpet police station will hold full additional charge of Inspector, Thuraiyur police station as the latter heads the team probing the Thuraiyur burglary case.
The Deputy Superintendent of Police of the sub-division concerned has been instructed to make necessary additional charge arrangements for the other ranks as the special teams encompasses sub-inspectors, special sub-inspectors, and head constables.
Leads pursued
Police sources said the teams were pursuing various leads and every progress made in these cases was being monitored by the Superintendent of Police, Tiruchi.
