The Inner Wheel Club of Tiruchi celebrated Children's Day by taking out a group of 11 students of child labour special school run by the Child Labour Elimination and Effective Rehabilitation Society (CHEERS) at Kattur to a visit of the Anna Science Centre – Planetarium. The visit also coincided with the Child Rights Convention week.
They were joined by another group of 19 students of Ramakrishna Middle School, Woraiyur, which mainly caters to the wards of daily wage earners.
At the planetarium, the students of both the schools, all in the age group of 10 to 12 years, witnessed a couple of 3-D films on ‘ancient life forms' and the ‘antics of a magician' in the mini air-conditioned theatre. Wearing 3-D goggles was a new experience for them .
Later, the students witnessed a planetarium show ‘Astronomy in ancient times' for over 45 minutes. The various planets, constellations and some of the big names in the field of astronomy thrilled them.
They took part in the quiz conducted by the project chairman Nandini and former secretary of the club, Sivasundari held at the end of the show .
At the environment and conservation gallery, the visiting students took notes of many important details given on each and every exhibit. The children also enjoyed their time at the planetarium park.
Nallammai Swaminathan, president of the Inner Wheel Club; Uma Sornaganesh, its secretary; Kayalvizhi and Shanti, district officers of the club, accompanied the children.
