A cultural competition on Thursday provided an opportunity to the special children from various schools in and around the city to exhibit their talents.

The two-hour programme was organised by the Rotary Club of Tiruchi Shakthi with a view to providing a platform to the special children as part of observance of the anniversary of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.

M. Ramasubramani, Inspector-General of Police, who distributed prizes among winners, complimented the role of special teachers in nurturing the talents of the special children.

Referring to the achievement of winners in the special Olympics, he said these goals not only reflected the students’ talents but the special teachers’ hard efforts. Allirani Balaji, president of the club, said the programme aimed at infusing a sense of confidence among the special children about their capability to face any challenge on par with normal children.

S. Rajeswari, Superintendent of Police, appealed to parents to ensure sustained support to their wards through proper monitoring and care.
