Superintendent of Police, Karur, T.K. Rajasekaran has recommended to the Regional Transport Officer (RTO) to cancel the driving licences of 1,115 persons, who were found guilty of committing various offences including drunken driving.
He said that 11,173 persons were booked recently for committing various offences including drunken driving and rash driving. While 1,728 persons were booked for drunken driving, cases were registered against 1,391 persons for rash driving.
Similarly, 6,325 persons were booked for using mobile phones while driving.

Mr. Rajasekaran said that as per the Supreme Court direction, the licences of those committing six types of offences such as drunken driving, rash driving, using mobile phone while driving, transporting excessive load, transporting passengers on load carriers and violating traffic signals can be cancelled. Based on the direction, he had asked the RTO to cancel the driving licences of 1,115 persons.
Of them, he said that licences of 7 persons had already been cancelled. Remaining 1,008 licences would be cancelled shortly.
