Railway authorities organised a surprise check of baggage of passengers on board the Tiruchi – Nagore train at the railway junction here on Saturday, to put a check on transportation of crackers.

Despite heavy crowds at all compartments, the officials went up to each and every compartment to ascertain if any passenger carried crackers.

S.A. Abdul Rahman, Additional Divisional Railway Manager, R. Subbian, Senior Divisional Safety Officer, R. Soundararajan, Chief Medical Superintendent and N. Muthukumar, Station Manager conducted the check.

A sniffer dog, Rinky, was the centre of attraction. Swiftly obeying the command of Balasubramanian, Assistant Sub-Inspector, it sniffed each and every baggage, but did not sound any warning signal all through the operation on board the train and also at the platforms.

The railway police also distributed awareness pamphlets on safety measures during train travel.
