Six killed in car, lorry collision near Tiruchi

Six persons were killed in a car-lorry collision on the Tiruchi–Pudukottai national highway on Sunday.

Nine persons were travelling in the car to Coimbatore from Pudukottai when the accident occurred.

The police identified the deceased as S. Ranganayaki (65), R. Gunasekar (30), G. Ramasamy (50), R. Saradhamani (60), B. Navin (8) and R. Rajamani (40), all hailing from Coimbatore. The deceased were all occupants of the car.

Three occupants of the car and four occupants of the lorry who sustained injuries were admitted to private hospitals in the city. The lorry driver is absconding.

Traffic was held up on the highway for some time. Police personnel rushed to the spot and restored traffic. The Deputy Inspector General of Police, Tiruchi Range, A.G. Pon Manickavel, visited the accident spot. The Navalpat police have registered a case.
