The District Child Line has rescued six children in the age group of 7 to 13 years, who were found begging at the new bus stand here with a 20-year-old girl with a one-month-old baby in her arms.

Child Line Director S.Karuppasamy said after they received a call on Tuesday morning about the children wandering in the bus stand and seeking alms, Child Line team members rescued them. Enquiries revealed that the children — four girls and two boys — were brought by the girl, identified as Jothi from Erwadi, to the bus stand for begging.

They used to beg during the day and return to Erwadi in the evening, he said, adding that the children were all school dropouts.
