A Railway Protection Force officer caught hold of the boys found roaming on platform 1, and handed over them to Childline, Tiruchi.

All the six boys, in the age group of 14-15 years, were class 9 students of the Government Higher Secondary School at Thanjavur town and had reached Tiruchi by train.

The Probationary Officer and District Child Protection Officer of Thanjavur was informed of their rescue and officials from the Government Children’s Home, run by the Department of Social Defence, came to Tiruchi on Wednesday. The boys were handed over to them.

A senior department official said that of the six boys, four belonged to Tuticorin district, and the other two were from Thanjavur and Nagapattinam districts.

The boys had left the government home as they wanted to meet their parents, the official added.

The home accommodates 85 boys.
