A regional level exhibition of products made by self-help groups from Tiruchi and neighbouring districts opened at Kalaiarangam here on Saturday.

Products made by self-help groups from Tiruchi, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Pudukottai, Karur, Ariyalur, and Perambalur districts are on display at the expo with 76 stalls.

Saris and dress material, home décor items, fashion jewellery, wooden and earthen sculptures, herbal and food products, bio fertilizers, and other products are on sale. The exhibition will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. till August 28. The exhibition was inaugurated by R. Manoharan, chief whip in the Legislative Assembly, in the presence of N.R. Sivapathi, M. Paranjothi, R. Chandrasekar, and T. Indira Gandhi, MLAs, Jayashree Muralidharan, Collector, and A. Jaya, Mayor. Mr. Manoharan said there were 20,513 women’s self-help groups and they were being extended revolving funds and skill development training. He appealed to the corporation to allot shops for self-help groups on a rotation basis in the city limits.

Ms. Muralidharan urged the groups to assess the trends among youth and market their products with better packaging and logos.
