The Joint Coordination Council, Bharathidasan University (JCC-BARD), an umbrella organisation of Association of University Teachers and Tamil Nadu Government Collegiate Teachers’ Association, has urged the Tamil Nadu State Council for Higher Education) and the university to shelve the proposed uniform curriculum slated for implementation from 2013-14.
There were discrepancies to be addressed before its implementation, N.P. Sathik, secretary, JCC-BARD, said in a press release.
A glaring inconsistency was allotment of practical components for science subjects only in the even semesters. Another discrepancy was enhancing the extent of internal assessment to 40 per cent, the release said.
The JCC-BARD also opposed reintroduction of one mark / objective type questions. Universities had earlier given up the objective type questions as impracticable since it would lead to mass-copying. These discrepancies would disturb the academic ambience, the release said.
Prof. Sathik wanted the university to shelve the proposed curriculum for UG and PG levels and invite representatives of the Joint Action Council of college teachers of Tamil Nadu for talks.
