The Federation of Consumer and Service Organisations, Tiruchi, has appealed to the Centre to establish the proposed All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Tiruchi. In a representation, its president M. Sekaran appealed to the State government to actively promote Tiruchi with the Centre for setting up the institute. The Finance Minister had announced in the Union Budget that the government would set up AIIMS in Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Himachal Pradesh, and Assam in 2015-16 fiscal. Mr. Sekaran said Tiruchi was situated in the central part of the State and is well connected by roads, railways, and airport. Further, there is no shortage of water in the city. Hence, the institute should be set up in Tiruchi, he said.— Special Correspondent
