A seed money of Rs.50,000 was given to each of the 57 village poverty reduction committees in four panchayat unions where the Tamil Nadu State Rural Livelihood Mission programme is being implemented in the district.
Jayashree Muralidharan, District Collector, gave away the orders sanctioning the seed money to the representatives of these committees at the collectorate here on Monday.
135 panchayats
In a press release issued here, the Collector said that the programme is being implemented in 135 village panchayats in Manachanallur, Thottiyam, Thathaiengarpet, and Marungapuri blocks.
A total of 121 village poverty reduction committees comprising people belonging to the most economically backward, differently abled, and other weaker sections have been formed in these villages.
In all, Rs.28,50,000 has been released to 24 committees in Marungapuri union, 13 in Mannachanallur, 11 in Thathaiengarpet and nine in Thottiyam union.
