An aero modelling show by cadets marked the start of a three-day science exhibition organised at National College in the city on Monday.

The programme was inaugurated by Jamal Nazar, principal, D.I.E.T, Tiruchi.

The objective is to arouse interest in the field of science among school students. The expo covers a plethora of concepts in different branches of science such as chemistry, physics, biology, and geology.

Individual stalls have been put up by each department of the college. Exhibits on tissue culture, plant culture, mushroom culture, and evolution of life are on display by the department of biotechnology. The department of chemistry demonstrates the reactions of colouring agents, smoke emitting chemical mixtures, and changes caused by chemical agents. The department of physics has come up with safety gadgets, solar-operated robot, musical fountain, and laser displays.

Principles and fallacies of mathematics and astral mathematics are explained by the department of mathematics and computer science. Exhibits on volcanoes, dinosaurs, and solar system are the other attractions as are the book exhibition, numismatics, and the display of scientific equipment. A 10-minute video presentation by each department is another feature of the event.

Stalls were also set up by Anna Science Centre-Planetarium, K.A.P. Viswanathan Government Medical College, and the air, naval and army wings of NCC.
