A fortnight-long annual training programme on traffic rules for school students jointly organised by the City Police, Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation, Youth Exnora International and Junior Chamber of India Tiruchi, commenced here on Monday.
Select students from various schools across the district undergo training in traffic rules who, in turn, will impart the knowledge gained at the training to other students in their schools.
Sensitisation
The programme seeks to sensitise students to traffic rules so as to check road accidents in the long run. Traffic police personnel will also explain the rules to the students.
The training, being held at the Children’s Traffic Rules Park on the Old Collector’s Office campus, got under way in the presence of R.Arunachalam and A.Murugesan, Assistant Commissioners (Traffic), Tiruchi South and North respectively, P.Mohan, founder, Youth Exnora International, T.Senthil Kumar, president, Youth Exnora, Tiruchi, and other officials.
Mr.Mohan said about 4,000 school students would be trained during the exercise. So far, about 70,000 students had undergone the training over the past 16 years, he said.
The city police were providing vehicles for transport of students of Corporation and government schools, he said.
Students were also being sensitised to child rights, fitness and yoga, self defence, food habits, eye and dental care during the training, he said.
