A riot of colours transformed plain chart paper into beautiful art as young minds exhibited their creativity at The Hindu Young World on-the-spot painting competition 2014 finals conducted in the city on Sunday.
Over 300 students from over 100 schools took part in the event held at Cauvery College for Women. The participants in the finals were selected from the entries received earlier.
While students from class IV to VI competed in the junior category, those from class VII to X vied in the senior category.
The topics were heritage walk, bird-watching, sports day, shopping with family, and vegetable/fruit market for juniors.
Seniors could choose from fishing trip, potter’s village, trip to the village, when books come alive, picnic with my favourite book/comic characters, puppet show, and traffic jam.
Two professional painters M.Rajappa and M.Ayyappa were the judges.
They handpicked the winners from a plethora of entries based on attributes such as creativity, sketch lining, colour combination, presentation, and depiction.
In the senior category, G.Saranya of class IX, Government Girls HSS, Tiruvarur, won the first prize, while V.Muthukumaran of class IX, DBTR National HSS, Mayiladudurai, and A.Prasath of class X, Chinmaya Vidhyashram Matriculation School, Tiruchi, bagged the second and third prizes.
In the junior category, T.Hemila of class V, Star Matriculation HSS, Pavithram, Karur, secured the first place, while A. Ranjana Devi of class V, Chinmaya Vidhyashram Matriculation School, Tiruchi, came second, and M.A.Mathumita of class IV, Montfort School, Tiruchi, third. Chandrakumar, managing director of Kauvery Medical Centre, distributed prizes. The winners walked away with school bags from Roshan The Bag Mall and certificates from The Hindu.
The presenting sponsor was MIOT Hospitals. The regional sponsors were Canara Bank and Roshan The Bag Mall while the gift sponsor was Cosmic’s Art Gallery and Crafts.
