A ten-year-old schoolboy with an inscription of blue whale on his arm is reportedly under observation at the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital.

The boy studying in a government-aided school had reportedly told the Palakarai police that he had played the ‘blue whale’ challenge using a mobile phone belonging to a classmate. However, when the police conducted investigations with the school authorities, it came to light that the boy had given false information.

Police said the boy's involvement with the game cannot be entirely ruled out at this stage, citing the scar which he had made on his hand by using a razor.

According to sources, the boy was responding well to the intervention by psychiatrists.

Meanwhile, Alexander (22) from Neravy limits in Karaikal district who was rescued by the police before he could inscribe the outline of ‘blue whale’ on his arm, has preferred a complaint calling for action against unidentified persons who had sent the link for the game to his phone with the intent of causing him harm.

Police sources said since Alexander had uninstalled the app and reset the phone to factory settings, there was difficulty in determining the origin of the link. The assistance of cyber crime wing has been sought.
