Authorities of the Samayapuram Sri Mariamman temple near here gave 24 carat pure gold weighing 11 kg 800 gm to the authorities of the Sri Murugan temple at Tirumaliruncholai near Madurai on Tuesday.

The temple authorities from Tirumaliruncholai handed over a cheque for Rs.1,79,20,000 to their counterparts from Samayapuram.

The metal will be utilised for making a golden chariot for the Tirumaliruncholai temple.

Speaking to journalists, Executive Officer of the Samayapuram temple Bharathi said 118 gold biscuits, each weighing 100 gm., were handed over.

Ms. Bharathi said the Sri Sugavaneswarar temple in Salem and the Sri Kottai Mariamman temple in Dindigul had also planned to get gold of six kg each from the Samayapuram temple for making chariots.
