The school education department started selling applications for the Tamil Nadu Teacher Eligibility Test (TNTET) on Monday through 87 higher secondary schools in the district.
Till last year, the applications were sold through the offices of the Chief Educational Officer and District Education Officers.
The government took a decision to sell the applications through higher secondary schools to facilitate the candidates. In the rural parts, the applications were sold only through government higher secondary schools and in city limits, the applications are being sold through nine government-aided higher secondary schools and Syed Murtuza government higher secondary school.
About 21,500 applications for paper I and 30,000 applications for paper II is likely to be sold till July 1 and on Monday, over 10,500 applications were sold, Chief Educational Officer K. Selvakumar said. The candidates would be required to submit the applications at the offices of the respective DEOs, the CEO said.
Paper I for candidates desirous of handling primary classes from I to V standards consists of five components: child development and pedagogy, language I, language II, mathematics, and environmental studies, each with 30 multiple choice questions, for a total of 150 marks. Paper II consists of five components of paper I replacing environmental studies with science or social studies. Candidates with qualification of higher secondary and D.T.Ed are considered eligible to appear for Paper I, and those with a minimum of undergraduate degree and B.Ed, could write Paper II and make themselves eligible for handling upper primary classes: VI to VIII. A candidate with requisite qualification interested in teaching from std I to VIII could appear for both exams, sources said.
The exam of three hour duration each for Paper I and Paper II would be conducted on August 17 and 18 respectively. A candidate has to secure a minimum of 60 per cent for a pass.
