The people should be aware of all the welfare schemes being implemented by the government for the weaker sections so that they could enjoy the benefits of the same, said A. Suganthi, Collector.
Speaking at a mass contact programme held at Rayavaram village in Tirumayam taluk on Wednesday, Ms. Suganthi said that mass contact programmes are conducted not only to solve the grievances of the local people but also to create awareness among the villagers on the various ongoing welfare schemes. The people should take advantage of such programmes, she said.
The Collector distributed welfare assistance to the tune of Rs. 5.42 lakh under various government schemes to the beneficiaries.
A total of 104 petitions were received from the people in connection with the mass contact programme, of which 76 petitions were taken for consideration and the rest were rejected. While 29 petitions pertained to patta transfer, 26 pertained to removal encroachments, three for construction of overhead water tanks, 26 seeking education loans, 35 for old age pension and the rest seeking other facilities. All the petitions will be considered by the officials and the action taken will be informed to the people.
Two petitions were received seeking transport facilities. The Collector directed the authorities to extend the Aranthangi – Rayavaram bus to Kadiapatti and operate it twice a day from May 5. The other petition was regarding extension of the Pudukottai – Nallipatti bus to Kadiapatti via Nallipattivilakku, valayapatti, Kayampatti, Andipatti, Sengeerai etc. As it was a new route, the Transport Department will explore the feasibility of the proposed route and take appropriate action.
The Collector on the occasion inaugurated special veterinary medical camp. A team of veterinary surgeons treated as many 2,283 cattle during the camp.
Ms. Suganthi also inaugurated a special exhibition brought out by the State Information and Public Relations Department. Various government departments, including agriculture, agricultural engineering, health, Information and Public Relations had displayed charts and pictures explaining in detail various schemes of the government.
