Lawyers should play a constructive role in shaping the future society by promoting legal aptitude among the young and junior advocates, said K. Uthirapathy, Principal District Judge.

Speaking at a function to mark the release of a Tamil book on Civil Procedure Code (CPC) here on Thursday, Mr. Uthirapathy said that in the present-day context, corporate sectors needed advocates highly skilled in specified areas such as ‘energy’, ‘audit’, ‘contracts’, ‘accidents’, ‘environment’ and ‘human resource’ etc. He said that senior advocates, who have a sound experience in various laws, should take up the responsibility of guiding young lawyers and their junior advocates to properly shape our future society. Mr. Uthirapathy suggested that senior lawyers should act as mentors by publishing booklets on specific laws and Acts as in the case of CPC authored in Tamil by K.S. Sankar Murali, an advocate. “These books and booklets will provide ample opportunities for those aspiring for career progression or candidates appearing for examinations for recruitment of judicial officers,” he said going down the memory lane to explain the hard efforts he had to take during his early part of his career to comprehend the tough components of law. He said that knowledge of Civil Procedure Code was vital for handling cases and advised lawyers to develop their skill in this regard. R. Kannan, a senior advocate, spoke on various applications of CPC. It could be utilised with or without the applications of Evidence Act. A senior advocate K. Sugumaran and Jayaveerapandian, former president of Tiruchi Bar Association, spoke.
