A four-member gang arrested a few months ago on the charge of indulging in robberies in Tiruchi and other districts was detained under the Goondas Act here on Monday.
The gang members T.Jayaraj (23), P.Suresh (24), K.Duraipandian (25), all from Tirunelveli, and S.Raja (24) of Tuticorin robbed gold jewellery from the house of a college lecturer in Siruganur in mid-June after threatening him and his mother and sped away in the car belonging to the lecturer.
Days later, the gang struck a house at Egai Town near Manikandam and decamped with gold jewellery, cash and a car after threatening a woman who was alone in her home .
Special teams
Special teams of the Tiruchi Police arrested the gang in July last week and recovered the stolen property including a car.
They were detained under the Goondas Act on the order of the District Collector Jayashree Muralidharan, a police press release here said.
The release further said M.Manikandan alias Manimaran (25) of Therkkumalai in Thuvakudi who was involved in various crimes including robbery in Thuvakudi police station limits was detained under the Goondas Act on Monday.
