Headmasters of high and higher secondary schools were oriented on the course of action to be adopted in implementing Samacheer Kalvi at a meeting chaired by the Joint Director of School Education – Sarva Siksha Abhiyan, S.Kannappan, on Thursday.
The school heads were advised to involve class teachers in making a total of 41 corrections to the textbooks from classes II to V and from VII to X, on Friday and Saturday. The school education department is particular that students should not be involved in the task of pasting stickers, using markers, tearing, and partial tearing of pages, to conceal the contents.
Chief Educational Officer T.Mohana Kumar said headmasters are required to ensure 100 per cent attendance on August 15 for the Independence Day celebration. All students will be provided with the textbooks on that day, and regular classes must commence without fail from Tuesday onwards, he said, adding that in all likelihood, the portions for quarterly examinations and even the schedule will be informed to the students on Wednesday.
Mr.Kannappan suggested to the headmasters that the HM's room be well furnished and kept spic and span to create a good impression in the minds of the parents. There was provision for making allotment for the purpose under the SSA, he said.
The CEO said the task could be carried out also under the Rastriya Madhyamik Siksha Abhiyan (universalisation of secondary examination scheme) in phases.
Each school will be entitled to Rs. 40 lakh under the head, ‘major repair fund,' for enhancing infrastructure, increasing classrooms, carrying out roof conversion, and setting right the library, computer laboratories, office room and the headmaster's room, he said.
Each year, 40 schools will be covered. The revenue district with three educational districts; Tiruchi, Musiri and Lalgudi, accounts for a total of 102 government and government-aided high schools and 155 government and government-aided higher secondary schools
