A water purification system donated under the Lloyd’s Register Water Matters Campaign was commissioned at the Thiruvalluvar Gurukulam School run by the Narikuravar Education and Welfare Society (NEWS) at Devarayaneri near here on Monday.
Lloyd’s Register Asia is an NGO involved in providing clean and safe drinking water to schoolchildren. The funding for this project is in line with Lloyd’s Register’s Corporate Social Responsibility initiative – LR-250 Water Matters.
The initiative is aimed at addressing issues, including potable drinking water , health, basic education, vocational training, sanitation, and rural infrastructure.
The facility includes a 500-LPH reverse osmosis plant, pump, automatic controls and related auxiliaries. The test results of the treated water shows a drastic reduction in TDS levels.
The treated water has 95 mg/l TDS whereas the raw bore water has 1694 mg/l. The levels of various other metals and chemicals have also come down significantly. M.Palanivel, general manager-Human Resources, BHEL, commissioned the new facility.
K.Swaminathan, vice president-Inspection Services, South and North Asia, and Vikas Neeraj, vice president-operations, South West Asia- Inspection Services, S.Nagarajan, general manager-operations, South Zone Inspection Services, were present.
