Co-scholastic activities are receiving as much importance as curricular content at secondary level, what with the Rashtriya Madhyamik Siksha Abhiyan (RMSA) opening up avenues for developing skills befitting aptitude of students through Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation.
A five-day refresher training for about 120 arts teachers drawn from various schools that commenced on Monday at the St. John's Vestry Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School has been organised with this objective. The training programme will culminate with an arts exhibition depicting the art works of the participants, Chief Educational Officer K.Selvakumar said.
Last week, a similar training programme was conducted for about 51 music teachers. Their participation was enthusiastic. There were also participants from the neighbouring district. Likewise, a programme was on the anvil for sports teachers, the CEO said.
Development of skills under the aegis of Sarva Siksha Abhiyan is poised for a further fillip following the impending appointment of teachers for temporary posts in the village schools.
The process of appointing teachers is likely to begin on December 26. In Tiruchi district, there are nearly 2,500 applicants for 573 temporary posts. The chosen teachers for tailoring, music, sports and arts will report for work by mid-January, Mr. Selvakumar said.
