It is the right time to use the alternate sources of energy than the traditional fossil fuels like oil, coal and natural gas use for generating power, said speakers at a seminar on ‘alternate sources of energy’ organised by the Department of Chemistry of Holy Cross College here to mark the platinum jubilee celebrations of the Department of Chemistry.
N.V. Kalaivanan, General Manager, Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited, Nagapattinam, who delivered the key-note address, explained in detail the various resources of energy and the importance of taking green house gas production. He cautioned the scientists to tackle global warming problems at the earliest possible time.
Sr. Elizabeth Rose, former principal and Head of the Department of Chemistry, who inaugurated the seminar, stressed the importance of renewable energy sources.
Sr. Sarguna, Principal of the college, in her presidential address, mentioned that most of the countries were using fossil fuel based methods of energy production and it had depleted the natural supply.
Three technical sessions were held and were chaired by L. Cindrella, M.P. Balasubramanyan, Additional General Manager, Business Excellence, BHEL, M. Kodeeswara Ramanathan, Scientific Officer, Department of Petrochemical Engineering, Anna University.
Fr. S. John Britto, Secretary, St. Joseph’s College, Tiruchi, presided over the valedictory function.
