‘Retrieve temple land from clutches of real estate men’

December 30, 2014 11:04 am | Updated 11:04 am IST - TIRUCHI:

Members of Tamil Nadu Vivasayigal Sangam on Monday staged a demonstration in front of the Collectorate here, demanding the retrieval of temple land at Vellur near Musiri.

They demanded the arrest of those persons who allegedly set fire Pichayi (48), daughter of Packiam.

Siva. Suriyan, district secretary, led the protest.

They said that a piece of land of Mariamman temple had been illegally brought under their control by a group of real estate men on Sunday. They had unleashed violence against the legal occupants of land to vacate them from it. Some of them had made an attempt to kill Pichayi by pouring kerosene on her, who was admitted to the Government Hospital in Tiruchi with 70 per cent burns.

Hence, the Collector should intervene in the matter to ensure the retrieval of the land. Enquiry should be initiated against a group of police personnel of Musiri, who acted in a partisan manner in the issue.
