Members of Tamil Nadu Retired Government Employees Association (TNRGEA), including women, staged a dharna in front of Khadi Kraft in Tiruchi on Wednesday evening to highlight their seven-point charter of demands.
The demands included increase in medical reimbursement to Rs. 3 lakh from Rs. 1 lakh at present; expeditious action on solving the issues confronting those officials suspended a day ahead of their retirement on disciplinary grounds; and fixing a minimum of Rs. 3,050 as pension for the retired noon meal/anganwadi/village watchmen cadre.
They demanded that the Railways halt its move to extend Pallavan Express to Karaikudi and urged the Railways to restore Rockfort Express to Tiruchi.
A.S. Nagappan, district vice president of the TNRGEA, led the dharna, and S. Arthur Godwin, district secretary, explained the demands. S. Somalingam, Thanjavur district president of the TNRGEA, P. Kumaravel, state vice president, Tamil Nadu Land Survey Employees Union, P. Aruljose, district president of the TNRGEA, T.Annadurai, district joint secretary, and V. S. Durai, district vice president, TNRGEA, spoke.
