Additional Chief Secretary, Tourism, Culture and Religious Endowments Department, R.Kannan, inspected the works at Sri Jambukeswarar Akilandeswari Temple, Thiruvanaikovil, and Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple, Srirangam, recently.
The Tourism Department has sanctioned Rs. 97.20 lakh to Sri Jambukeswarar Akilandeswari Temple for taking up restoration works of thousand-pillar mandapam, toilets, resting mandap, and reception centre for pilgrims and beautification work at Aadipuram teppakulam.
While inspecting the work on protecting the sculptures of the thousand-pillar mandapam, Mr.Kannan suggested the use of appropriate transparent protective coating to preserve the sculpture.
At the thousand-pillar mandapam at Sri Ranganathaswami Temple, the restoration work starts from northwest mukhamandapam where excavation work has been done by the State Archaeological Department. Among the works are conservation of ornamental stones using mortar and mending of cracked beams.
Dr.Kannan also inspected the repair works at rampart wall that is nearing completion. The Additional Chief Secretary also inspected the development of park with Tourism Development Funds at Mukkombu.
He directed the officials to improve the design of the cloak rooms and provide water and drainage connection, reverse osmosis water purification connection to all drinking water outlets, restore science equipment to their original condition; restore water slide; maintain toilets, water fall, toy train, and model scientific equipment for children.
