Pongal prepared using solar cooker served to villagers for pollution-free celebration

Eco Pongal promoting pollution-free Pongal celebration and renewable energy sources was organised by the district Exnora, Youth Exnora and Junior Chamber India (JCI) Tiruchi at Nerkuppai village near Manachanallur recently.

The Eco Pongal was celebrated in the presence of Collector Jayashree Muralidharan and the locals. The members of the three organisations prepared the Pongal using solar cooker.

The objective of eco Pongal is to create awareness of the renewable energy sources and to stress the need for celebrating pollution-free Pongal.

Mrs. Muralidharan commended the good work done by the district Exnora and Youth Exnora in popularising solar power among the masses for the past many years.

Traditional thread

Sweet pongal and traditional thread, were presented to the villagers on the occasion. Krishnamoorthy, president of the Bikshandarkoil panchayat, Balasubramanian, president of the district Exnora, Kalavathi Shanmugam, its secretary, Veerasakthi, president of the JCI Tiruchi, P. Mohan, president of the State Youth and Students Exnora, and K. Sekar, principal, Chidambaram Pillai College for Women participated in the celebration.

Cultural programmes on various themes were staged at the end.
