Scores of devotees witnessed the ‘Chokkapanai’ lit at Srirangam Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple on the occasion of Tirukarthigai tirunal on Wednesday.

The rituals associated with the festival were marked by Namperumal, the processional idol, being taken out from the sanctum sanctorum twice. On the first occasion, the idol was brought to Sandhanu mandapam in the morning where Tirumanjanam kandarulal rituals were performed. The idol was taken back to the sanctum sanctorum in the late evening which was followed by Sri Utthmanambi Swamigal idai vilakku rituals.

On the second occasion, Namperumal was brought from the sanctum sanctorum about 8 p.m. Amidst religious fervour, chokkapanai was lit marking the chokkapanai kandarulal ritual. Later, Namperumal was taken to Sri Thayaar shrine, where Tiruvandhikappu kandarulal ritual was held. Sri Mugapattayam was recited at Sandhanu mandapam. Later, Namperumal was taken to the sanctum sanctorum with Tirukaithala sevai. S. Kalyani, Joint Commissioner and executive officer of the temple, supervised the arrangements.
