The special camps organised by the Department of Employment and Training across the district to enable Plus-Two students to register their names with the District Employment Office drew an overwhelming response on Thursday.
Nearly 5,000 students registered their names during the day as huge rush of students were witnessed at all the six camps being held at the Bishop Heber Higher Secondary School, Teppakulam, Tiruchi, (for boys only), Seva Sangam Girls Higher Secondary School, Tiruchi (girls) and Government Boys Higher Secondary School at Manapparai, Lalgudi, Musiri and Thuraiyur (all common for both girls and boys).
Though the camps began on Wednesday, students began to pour in only on Thursday as many of them managed to get their mark sheets from the schools only on Wednesday afternoon.
N. Muralidharan, Assistant Director, Employment Office, Tiruchi, told The Hindu that students who register their names at the camps were issued identity cards on the spot. Renewals were also done. On Thursday, 2452 students registered their names at the two camps in Tiruchi city, 598 in Lalgudi, 800 in Musiri, 459 in Thuraiyur and 516 in Manapparai. On Wednesday, about 700 students had registered their names in the six camps. Each of the camps were manned by a Junior Employment Officer and three employees, he said and added that adequate arrangements have been made to ensure the smooth conduct of the camps that would go on till Saturday. The camps were being held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mr.Muralidharan said students from the respective areas could appear at the camps along with their SSLC and Plus-Two mark-sheets, community certificates and ration cards. Those who have already registered with the office should produce the identity cards issued by the department. Only those with ration cards issued in Tiruchi district could register themselves at the camps.
As far as registration for SSLC passed students, the Employment Office was planning to adopt the same approach as last year by carrying out the process through the schools.
Application forms would be sent to schools depending on the number of students who had passed after the mark sheets were issued.
