Around 2,000 candidates turned up for the recruitment in the Territorial Army (TA) that was held here on Thursday. The selection was for the Soldier - General Duty, Soldier - Clerk and Soldier- Housekeeper categories in the TA.

Majority of the candidates who appeared for the selection held at the 117 Infantry Battalion (TA) The Guards grounds here were from Tamil Nadu. A few aspirants had come from Karnataka, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh.

A total number of 660 candidates were shortlisted, from among the around 2,000 candidates, for whom physical efficiency tests were carried out at the TA grounds under the supervision of the Commanding Officer, 117 Infantry Battalion (TA) The Guards, Tiruchi Colonel K. Haridas.

The physical efficiency tests comprised 1.6 km run, jumping over nine feet ditch, balance beam and pull ups. TA authorities said detailed verification of certificates of the candidates would be conducted and the medical examination for those selected in the physical efficiency test would take place on Friday.

The selected candidates would undergo one month training at the 117 Infantry Battalion (TA) in the city and would later be sent for a nine-months training at the Guards Regimental Centre in Khamti near Nagpur, TA authorities said.
