A real estate agent was arrested by the Anti Land Grabbing Cell of Tiruchi Rural Police here on Wednesday on land grab charge.

The accused D. Suresh (35) had prepared forged documents to commit the crime and sold the land to several persons in 2009.

A case was registered on a complaint from N. Balasubramanian (52), a resident of Anna Nagar in Chennai, the owner of the land measuring 4.86 acres at Gundur on the city’s outskirts.

He realised that his property had been grabbed when he came to Tiruchi last month to obtain an encumbrance certificate for the land.

He also came to know that Suresh had obtained a fake power of attorney and sold the land to several persons.

Police sources said Suresh had prepared forged documents to make it appear that Balasubramanian had given him the power of attorney for the land. Suresh then divided the site and sold the land to six persons.

The sources said six others have been named as accused in the land grab case in addition to Suresh. Further investigations were on.
