‘Ready to tackle lorry strike', says Thanjavur District Collector

All steps have been taken to maintain essential supplies to people during the period of lorry strike (strike begins from mid night on Saturday) in Thanjavur district said M. S. Shanmugham, Collector here on Saturday.

He held discussions with officials regarding preparations to tackle the strike at the collectorate. He said that essential commodities like milk, rice, vegetables and ration materials will be supplied to people using mini lorries which will be operated with police protection during the strike period.

These efforts will be taken jointly by transport, revenue and police department officials.

Instructions had been given to keep adequate oxygen cylinders in hospitals and to reach them using mini lorries if there is a demand. Stern action will be taken by the police against those who stop these vehicles, the collector said. S. Suresh Kumar, District Revenue officer and other officials participated in the meeting, said a release issued here on Saturday.
