An aged couple of Thirupalaikudi in this district have petitioned the Collector to arrange for bringing back the body of their son, who was found murdered on Sunday on the premises of ETA Star Group in Sharjah, where he worked as a security guard.
They also sought compensation from the company and the government.
G. Karmegam, 60, a differently abled person, and his wife K. Banumathi said their son K. Ganesan, 27, was on duty on Saturday night when some persons, suspected to be dacoits, hit him on the head with an iron rod. They sat the body in the chair.
The murder came to light on Sunday when another guard went to replace him, they said. A Thirupalaikudi resident, also working in the company, informed them of the death on the phone.
The couple said they made a living by selling eatables in a pushcart. Ganesan, a school dropout, had worked as a mason here before going abroad to earn more to clear the debts on account of the marriage of their third daughter last year.
He himself had borrowed Rs. 60,000 to get a passport and work permit, they said. He had been sending home Rs. 12,000 a month for the past eight months.
Ganesan planned to return home next year after completing his two-year contract. The body was kept at a Dubai hospital, Karmegam was told.
