Rallying for spreading awareness of malaria, dengue

A large number of school and college students and staff of the health department participated in a malaria and dengue awareness rally at Jayamkondam town on Tuesday.

District Collector Anu George flagged off the rally from Jayamkondam panchayat union office.

The objective of the procession is to apprise people on serious consequences of diseases such as dengue, chikungunya, malaria, encephalitis, brain fever, and its preventive measures. While urging residents to consume only boiled water, the participants of the rally encouraged people to keep the surrounding clean by preventing dumping of garbage in drains, cleaning choked drainage channels regularly, using mosquito nets and not allowing water stagnation around localities.

Ms.George distributed pamphlets on the importance of cleanliness in shops and households en route.

The students of Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Government Girls HSS, Kumar Paramedical Science Institute and others participated in the rally that passed through Anna Statue Junction, Bazaar Street, Four Roads, tahsildar office, Government Hospital Road before culminating at Fatima School.

Nirmala, Revenue Divisional Officer, Jayamkondam; Mohan, Deputy Director of Health Services; Sukumar Devadoss, Chief Educational Officer; Munusamy, District Malaria Control Officer, and other officials took part in the rally.
