Heavy rain lashed several parts of the district on Friday, resulting in a sharp drop in day time temperature.
The city received steady showers in the morning and heavy rain for over three hours in the evening, which left many of the arterial roads inundated.
Agriculture Department officials observed that the rain would be beneficial for the standing paddy crop. Lalgudi recorded the maximum of 50 mm of rainfall during the 24-hour period ending at 8.30 a.m. on Friday.

The average rainfall in the district was 27.53 mm. Collector declared holiday for schools in the district on Saturday.
