Holiday for schools in Thanjavur and Tiruvarur

Intermittent rainfall for most part of the day disrupted normal life in Tiruchi district. The intense wet spell created damp conditions and led to a significant drop in temperature.

Vehicular traffic was affected for about an hour, when an uprooted tree blocked traffic on Lalgudi Road. Three huts, two in Lalgudi and one in Musiri, collapsed.

While buses and cars plied as usual in the rest of the district, two-wheeler riders were caught off-guard and could be seen getting completely soake d.

The highest rainfall of 30.6 mm was recorded in Marungapuri during the last 24 hours until 8.30 a.m. on Thursday.

Rainfall in other places were: Nandhiyar Head - 29.2 mm, Ponnaniyar Dam - 24.2 mm, Kovilpatti - 22.4 mm, Golden Rock - 21.8 mm, Tiruchi Airport - 20.6 mm, Kallakudi - 20.2 mm, Manapparai - 18.6 mm, Pullambadi - 16.8 mm, Tiruchi Town and Thuvakudi IMTI - 16 mm, Navalur Kottapattu - 15.6 mm, Tiruchi Junction - 13.2 mm, Lalgudi - 11.8 mm, Samayapuram - 10 mm, Devimangalam and Chirukudi - 9 mm, Thenparanadu - 7 mm, Musiri - 6.5 mm, Vathalai Anicut - 4.6 mm, Thuraiyur - 4 mm, and Thathiengarpet and Kuppampatti - 3 mm.

Pudukottai

In Pudukottai district, schools were closed in view of the inclement weather.

Kattumavadi and Aranthangi recorded 36 mm and 31.2 mm respectively, followed by Kilanilai - 28.6 mm, Viralimalai - 26.1 mm, Illuppur - 25 mm, Nagudi - 20.4 mm, Alangudi - 19.2 mm, Malaiyur - 15 mm, Arimalam - 14.8 mm, Annavasal - 14 mm, Keeranur - 11.2 mm, Avudaiyarkovil - 10.2 mm, Ayinkudi - 9.4 mm, Perungalur and Karambakudi - 9 mm, Mimisal - 8.4 mm, Thirumayam and Ponnamaravathi - 8.2 mm, Gandarvakkottai - 7.2 mm, Pudukkottai - 7.1 mm, Karaiyur - 6.2 mm, Manamelkudi - 5 mm, Kudimiyanmalai - 4 mm, and Adanakotti and Udayalipatti - 3 mm.

The rainfall was normal in Karur district. Rainfall recorded at 4.00 p.m. at various places: K. Paramathi - 42 mm, K.R. Puram and Mayanur - 20 mm, Aravakurichi - 16.2 mm, Kulithalai - 16.1 mm, Karur - 13 mm, Anaipalayam - 12 mm, Thogamalai - 11.5 mm, and Panchapatti - 2.6 mm.

Delta region

In the delta districts, holiday was declared for schools in Thanjavur and Tiruvarur districts.

Schools functioned as usual in Nagapattinam district. The three districts, however, continued to receive steady rainfall.

In Thanjavur district, the average rainfall was much lesser at 8.61 mm for a 24-hour duration until 8.30 a.m.

Kumbakonam recorded highest rainfall of 35 mm, followed by Vallam - 21 mm, Thiruvaiyaru - 20 mm, Manjalaru - 19.2 mm, Thiruvadaimarudhur - 16.2 mm, Papanasam - 14.2 mm, Lower Anicut - 10.4 mm, Vettikadu - 8.4 mm, Thanjavur and Kurungulam - 8 mm, Budalur - 5.4 mm, Neivasal Thenpathi - 5.2 mm, Orthanad - 4.5 mm, Peravurani - 2 mm, Pattukottai - 1.6 mm, and Madukkur - 1.8 mm.

As against the normal rainfall of 350.54 mm during November, the accrual for the month till Wednesday (Nov 29) was 337.88 mm.

Till 4.00 p.m. on Thursday, the rainfall was highest at Valangaiman (51.2 mm) and Kodavasal (49.8 mm). Rainfall in other places: Nannilam - 32.4 mm, Tiruvarur - 23.8 mm, Mannaragudi - 21 mm, Needamangalam - 15 mm, Pandavaiyar Head - 13.2 mm, Thiruthuraipoondi - 10.2 mm, and Muthupet - 9 mm.

Nagapattinam

Nagapattinam district received average rainfall of 28 mm. Areawise, the rainfall was: Mayiladuthurai - 48 mm, Nagapattinam - 42.10 mm, Sirkazhi - 33.2 mm, Tirupoondi - 26.4 mm, Talaignayar - 23.6 mm, Vedaranyam - 19.6 mm, Kollidam - 19 mm, and Tranquebar - 3.3 mm.
