The Government Railway Police (GRP) here on Monday carried out an awareness campaign among travellers about passenger safety.

As part of the campaign conducted at Tiruchi Junction, pamphlets containing safety-related messages were distributed to passengers.

The GRP personnel circulated the pamphlets to travellers on the Mayiladuthurai-bound Jan Shatabdi Express. They were asked to desist from travelling on footboard of train, avoid consuming eatables offered by strangers and remain careful of their belongings. The circular cautioned the public to take care while crossing an unmanned level-crossing.

The travellers were informed that they could lodge complaints with the beat constables aboard the train and also about the GRP helpline number – 9962500500 to register their grievances or complaints.

The campaign was inaugurated by E.T. Samson, Superintendent of Police, Railways, Tiruchi.

Mr. Samson said instructions had been given to the railway police personnel manning the ‘May I Help You’ booths at major stations to maintain a register containing details of persons who had approached the booths seeking assistance.

The booths were presently functioning at 14 major stations falling within the vast jurisdiction of GRP, Tiruchi District, which starts from Villupuram and extends up to Kanyakumari.

The GRP personnel had been asked to note down the name, address and mobile number of passengers who had approached the booths seeking help and the nature of help rendered by the railway police personnel, Mr. Samson said.
