The 82{+n}{+d}Railway Athletics Championships commenced in the city on Thursday with teams from various railway zones across the country taking part.
Around 500 athletes will take part in a slew of events at the Anna Stadium here. A.K. Sinha, Chief Planning and Development Engineer, Southern and honorary secretary, Southern Railway Sports Association, hoisted the flag and witnessed the march past taken out by the participating teams.
Number of events
A host of events for men and women would be held during the athletic meet. This includes 100 metres sprint, 400 metres, pole vault, triple jump, 5,000 metres, hammer throw, long jump, discus throw, javelin throw, steeple chase and decathlon.
Organised by the Southern Railway Sports Association, the event concludes on August 27.
