The Puthiya Tamizhagam (PT) has demanded enforcement of total prohibition in the State.
The party has planned to organise series of demonstrations and agitations across the State demanding the closure of all Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation liquor shops. A resolution to this effect was adopted at the party's State executive committee meeting held here on Wednesday.
Highlighting the resolutions adopted at the meeting, the PT leader, K. Krishnasamy, told reporters here that functioning of TASMAC liquor shops had been ruining the lives of several people besides causing cultural degradation among the younger generation. He alleged that the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam government had not launched meaningful schemes in the last four years that were useful to the future generation or in the creation of new assets.
To check spurious drugs
Instead of offering freebies, the DMK government could instead concentrate on providing free higher education and develop the skills of the students, Dr. Krishnasamy said. Dr. Krishnasamy said a national-level quality control centre for drugs and food should be established to check entry of spurious drugs in the market.
The national-level centre should have its units at the State and regional levels to determine the quality of drugs and check spurious medicines.
Stern action
The government should initiate stern measures in this regard, he added.
One of the resolutions adopted at the executive committee meeting blamed the DMK government's wrong policies as the cause behind the frequent power cuts across the State.
