An estimated 2.55 lakh children below the age of five would be administered the oral polio vaccine during the Pulse Polio campaign to be held on January 20 and February 24 in Tiruchi district. About 6,740 personnel would be deployed to carry out the immunisation through 1,567 camps, Collector Jayashree Muralidharan said speaking at a coordination meeting with district officials here on Wednesday.
Thirty four special camps would be set up at 34 places including Srirangam, Gunaseelam, Samayapuram, Vayalur, mosques, churches and places of tourist interest, railway stations, bus stands and the city airport. These apart, 65 mobile teams would also be pressed into service. Arrangements have been made in association with the Railways to administer the oral vaccine to children travelling by trains passing through Tiruchi. All Anganwadi centres would function on January 20 to carry out the immunisation and if any centre was found closed the anganwadi employee concerned would be placed under suspension, she said.
