Heritage lamps lining up the road from Anna Statue Junction to the collectorate roundabout in Pudukottai town lends a new look to the town. The project has been implemented at an outlay of Rs.1 crore from the special centenary celebration funds sanctioned by the State government to the municipality.
A total of 62 heritage lamps, each costing Rs. 50,000, have been installed on the road. These lamps have been fitted on six-metre tall specially designed cast iron polls, said S. A. S. Sait alias Abdul Rahman, municipal chairman (in-charge).
Apart from the heritage lamps, the municipality has also installed 20 decorative lamps on East Main Street .
The work of installing the lamps , which commenced in August 2012, has been completed and power connection will be given to them by next week.
The testing of the lamps has been completed and they will be put to public use soon , Mr. Sait said.
The municipality has planned to replace 110 streetlights with LED lamps in different parts of the town to save power, said Mr. J.Subramanian, municipal commissioner (in-charge).
